MCBEAN SANS REGULAR 

The McBean family is the result of a 2013 commission from California Institute of the Arts to create a multi-style typeface as an extension to the school’s branding. Initially only three styles, McBean was expanded to sixteen styles in 2017 for general release.

MCBEAN SLAB REGULAR 

CalArts is a community formed in the Disney imagination that has become an incubator for conceptual makers — the Burtonesque freaks on the hill of the Santa Clarita Valley. The design program has a rich history of type design, ranging from the quirky to the bizarre, which inspired the development of an eclectic voice in line with the school’s identity.

McBean’s mannered approaches — insistent geometry, cheeky ornamentality, and mumpsimust logic — are gratefully inspired by the work of CalArtian designers from Andrea Tinnes to Sibylle Hagmann, Ian Lynam, Jens Gehlhaar, Ed Fella and Mr. Keedy.

McBean is adapted from a logo and lettering originally drawn by Scott Taylor for CalArts. MCBEAN SANS REGULAR 

The 16 styles of McBean feature extensive latin alphabet support,* lining and old-style numbers. In addition, each style includes an alternate brand “switchcase” which applies alternate capital A and E characters and all diacritics (Ä, É &c.)
