ANOMIQUE MAIGRE 

Anomique is a revival of Île-de-France, a mid-Century Mediterranean curiosity designed by Enric Crous-Vidal in the early 1960s. The design was the apotheosis of Crous-Vidal’s typographic passion; he lamented the reductive, cold tendencies of European modernist typography and instead sought to celebrate an vibrant regional voice – what he called “la Grafía Latina.”

ANOMIQUE DEMI 

A native of Catalonia, Enric Crous-Vidal was exiled by the Spanish Civil War and forged documents for the French Resistance before his typographic talents flourished in Paris. By 1954, when he was named Artistic Director of the Fonderie Typographique Française, Crous-Vidal’s advocacy for a Latin tradition in French typography led to experimental designs that were seductive and lively, “the hand and heart before a compass and mathematics.”

This revival is faithfully interpreted from the three original weights of Île-de-France, which were sourced from a bound specimen of the metal type collection at l’Ecole Estiènne. Anomique is a dynamic translation of the type for contemporary use. With exuberant forms and detailed spacing, it thrives in display and surprises in text settings.

Some aspects of the design have been updated and expanded for extensive latin alphabet support.* OpenType provides access to a set of reclining Os – alternates that were also available in metal – as well as to a set of commas and quotes that preserve the wider bearings of the original. There are lining numbers and a new set of old-style figures.
